Lemmon Avenue Trail

Review: A key part of the Lemmon Avenue beautification project led by Love Field, the Lemmon Avenue Trail runs along Lemmon Avenue, with crossings at Shorecrest that finally provide safer access to the Bachman Lake Trail. To the south, the trail ends at University (although one map shows it goes down to Mockingbird and into Love Field). More than anything, this trail stands out as an important connector for nearby neighborhoods, making it easier to reach Bachman Lake and offering future potential to link the Bachman area with other local trail systems.

Distance: Approx 1.7 miles between Shorecrest and Webb Chapel to Lemmon and University

Area of Town: NW Dallas along Lemmon near Bachman Lake

Facilities: The trail has lights, shade structures, and space for public art

Suitable for: Jogging, Walking, Biking

Type of Trail: Paved

Shade: Open to sun, aside from the shade structures

Where to Park:  No parking, unless you park at the Love Field Observation area, in the neighborhoods nearby, or Bachman Lake

Official Site:  There really isn’t one, Friends of Bachman Lake is your best bet for information

Nearby Trails: Bachman Lake, Bachman Greenbelt Trail

Lemon Avenue Trail Map

The Lemmon Avenue Trail completed in late 2025, as part of a broader Lemmon Avenue beautification effort by Love Field and Dallas Aviation. Official trail information is limited, and details are bundled with the Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Improvements documentation. Other details I’ve found online came either from Friends of Bachman Lake’s updates (like here and here) or Candy’s Dirt (here and here).

The map above is for the overall Lemmon Avenue Streetscape documentation, and make note that it’s oriented with north on the left, and south to the right. The trail is also on Open Street Maps, it shows it extending all the way down to Mockingbird and Colville Avenue. The trail mileage I’m using above is based on distance from Shorecrest and Webb Chapel at the lake, down to University and Lemmon, to match the above map. There is a protected crosswalk at University if you want to continue to the south.

If you start at Bachman Lake, at the intersection of Webb Chapel and Shorecrest, the trail is easy to follow along the northern border of Love Field and across Lemmon at the light. This has historically been a dangerous place to bike due to a narrow road and impatient cars, while going on foot took you through either gravel and broken glass—or tall grass… also with broken glass. This is a massive improvement linking the formerly isolated Bachman Lake Trail, across Lemmon to the east.

At the Shorecrest / Lemmon intersection you’ll find space for art (the art was removed to reinforce the concrete pad, it should return soon), as well as landscaping, light features and sitting areas. The trail continues to the south with additional landscaping, lighting and shade structures to rest on a hot sunny day. There is no shade beyond the shade structures, so a good spot to stop if you are overheating. You may notice a large sign on the other side of Lemmon for the Love Field Observation area. There is no safe way to cross here, unless you just dash across Lemon when there is a lapse in traffic.

As of April 23, 2026 the art has not been reinstalled

At Lovers Lane you’ll find an additional art installation as it extends south across Lovers Lane and down to University Blvd.

Based on the official map, the trail ends at University, but if you cross over, you can continue on that sidewalk to the Frontiers of Flight Museum, the new Primary Gateway for the airport (the triangle with red artistic structures at Lemon and Mockingbird) and go all the way down Mockingbird and into Love Field. This is how the Open Street Map version looks.

While the trail is complete, there may be additional enhancements in the future. There are discussions to turn Lemmon Avenue into an art trail, adding more public art to the area. Additional plans are also being made for additional connections in the area to other trail networks in the city, for instance the Campion Trail to the west, Northaven Trail to the north, or the Trinity Strand trail to the South.

If you live in the neighborhood, this is a wonderful addition to the area, allowing for safe passage across Shorecrest to the lake. The prior method was not safe for pedestrians or bikers, and with the other beautification work that Love Field did in the area, I really can’t overstate what a difference this has made. If you don’t live nearby, but are at the lake and would like to see what else is in the vicinity, the Lemmon Avenue Trail is a safe way to bike or walk to Frontiers of Flight Museum, grab lunch at Celebration or On Rotation Brewer, or somewhere else in the area.

It’s nice to see investments coming to Northwest Dallas, and one day hopefully it will be part of the regional Veloweb allowing for greater connectivity for all metroplex residents.
