Once you’ve experienced all the trails that the Metroplex has to offer, there are still places worth visiting only a couple of hours away beyond the metroplex. LBJ Grasslands, Tyler State Park, Cameron Park in Waco, and others are only a few hours away. While some of these may require more time commitments than others (LBJ GRasslands is a little more than an hour away, Colorado Bend State Park is three and a half hours away), each offers some variety and sites that you won’t find in the densely populated Metroplex. You can find extensive open spaces with long miles, or hills and clean rivers (ahem, Trinity River I’m looking at you).  Some of these can be done in a day, others may require an overnight stay.  Texas has a lot of outdoors to explore!
